Winter Solstice - A Time for Rebirth

“Surround yourself with inspiring beings"

Today we experience the winter solstice, which has a beautiful meaning and message that we can take from it.

Winter Solstice - A Time for Rebirth

“Winter solstice celebrations honor the symbolism of fire and light, along with life, death, the rising sun, and the moon.”

The winter solstice reminds us to honor our connection to the natural world. It is a way to celebrate the change of seasons without traditional holidays, gifts, or decorations. Instead, we can honor winter through rituals and self-care, looking specifically to our ancestors and heritage.

Winter Solstice - A Time for Rebirth

It is the shortest day of the year, but it also marks the beginning of longer days. This is the rebirth of the sun... the rebirth of who we are. Take this opportunity to reflect on what you have created in the past year and what you would like to create in the next.

Think of it this way: Although the winter solstice means the start of winter, it also means the return of more sunlight. It only gets brighter from here! It is time to think about what seeds we want to plant and what fruits we hope to reap. Today marks the beginning of a new journey through the year where everything gets brighter and we prepare for the fruits of our labor.

You have two choices: either stay in hibernation mode before the holidays or take the necessary steps to start a successful 2023.

As the light dwindled in the sky and the days grew shorter, the ancients wondered what was happening to the sun.

Their shamans and storytellers provided answers. Gods and goddesses were fighting for the survival of all life, playing games in the sky, or battling each other for supremacy. Ancient peoples worked to be in balance with the forces of nature as they understood them. Many cultures carefully watched the sun to know when to plant, harvest, and batten down the hatches for winter.

These days, most people think back on the mythical explanations that forces of nature were gods and goddesses as quaint legends. We know better. We have forgotten what it is to huddle in a fire-lit cave while thunder splits the night sky with sound and shakes the earth around us, so we no longer need to know the names of the thunder gods to assure us there is some order in the universe.

Winter Solstice - A Time for Rebirth

In Greek mythology, the gods and goddesses met on the winter and summer solstice, and Hades was permitted on Mount Olympus. It was also a time to celebrate the reverse between slave and master – for example, in Rome’s Saturnalia, the lord of the house would wait on the servants, schools were closed, the army rested, and no criminals were executed. Throughout history, societies across the world have held festivals and ceremonies marking the winter solstice, the day of the "sun’s rebirth.”

This is your chance to rebirth yourself into the new you in preparation for the upcoming seasons. This can only happen when you have a vision and you act on it.
